Rittal AX 1017000 is an 800 × 1200 × 300 mm stainless steel enclosure with a 745 × 1175 mm mounting plate. Its tall single-door format provides extensive vertical installation space without increasing the enclosure width beyond 800 mm. This configuration is suited to control layouts where power, control, terminal and cable-distribution sections need to be arranged in multiple vertical zones while retaining one continuous mounting plate.

AX 1017000 makes sense when the panel already works within a 745 mm mounting width, but the 975 mm mounting height of AX 1016000 would force terminal sections, cable distribution or additional equipment levels into the same working zones. Moving to AX 1017000 adds 200 mm of mounting height without increasing enclosure width, allowing the designer to extend the layout vertically while retaining an 800 mm-wide cabinet. However, if the 745 mm width itself is already causing long cross-panel cable routes, congested side-by-side equipment groups or poor access between power and control sections, adding height will not correct that problem. In that case, a wider 1200 mm-high configuration such as AX 1019000 should be evaluated instead.
Before Ordering AX 1017000
1. Check whether the problem is height or width before increasing cabinet size
Lay out the major equipment groups against the 745 × 1175 mm mounting plate. If the 745 mm width allows practical separation between power, control and terminal sections, the taller format can provide useful additional vertical capacity. If the layout is already congested horizontally, the extra 200 mm of height may simply make cable routes longer without solving the underlying problem.
2. Decide what belongs in the upper and lower zones
A 1175 mm-high mounting plate should not be treated as one continuous area to fill. Define which functions belong in the upper, central and lower zones according to cable entry, terminal location, heat-producing equipment and maintenance frequency.
3. Check cross-panel wiring before finalising the zones
Vertical expansion works best when related equipment can remain within the same general width. If conductors repeatedly need to travel from one side of the enclosure to the other between functional sections, the layout may be signalling that additional width—not height—is required.
4. Position service-intensive devices deliberately
With a 1200 mm-high enclosure, some equipment can end up well above or below the most convenient working area after wall installation. Devices requiring adjustment, fuse replacement, testing or frequent terminal access should be positioned with the final mounting height in mind.
5. Account for the 3-point locking system
AX 1017000 uses a 3-point locking system with one 3 mm double-bit lock, rather than the two-cam-lock arrangement used on AX 1016000. Replacement locking components, handles and door accessories should therefore be checked against the actual 1017000 locking configuration.
